After catching his soon-to-be bride in flagrante delicto with another man, a disillusioned marquess simply gallops off into the countryside. He finds himself in a small village, where he impulsively rents the local mansion as plain Mr. Stone of nowhere in particular. To his surprise, his wounded heart shows signs of new life as he becomes involved in the affairs of his beautiful landlady. But what chance of happiness do they have when his unscrupulous fiancie threatens him with a BREACH OF PROMISE (4) suit? Although there seems to be a little title confusion surrounding the hero, outstanding storyteller Elisabeth Fairchild develops a bevy of perceptive characterizations that engage both the mind and the heart.
