BREAKAWAY

RT Rating

This nice addition to Martin’s New York Blades series has a number of familiar faces and tie-ins to previous stories, as well as new faces and an engrossing secondary romance. Though the hero is a jerk, he isn’t entirely unlikable. Still, one wonders if the heroine should give him a second chance.

Working at her parents’ B&B in Ballycraig, Ireland, is not the career Erin O’Brien had planned for herself. Studying for an art history degree online, she is determined to pursue her dream now that golden boy Rory Brady is out of her life. Erin was left high and dry when he got an offer to play in the NHL for the New York Blades. She survived, but made a promise to herself never to sacrifice her hopes and dreams for a man.

Now Rory’s returned, ostensibly to help his grandmother and work with the football camp he started, but in reality it’s to win back Erin. He soon discovers that his leaving did more harm than he imagined and Erin just might not be his for the taking anymore. (BERKLEY SENSATION, Feb., 320 pp., $7.99)
