New York society girl Stacey Amhearst is broke. Abandoned by her rich friends, she accepts Oren McClain's marriage proposal. The wealthy rancher is oblivious to Stacey's true feelings, but he has his own motivations for the offer. Susan Fox's BRIDE OF CONVENIENCE (3) is entertaining, and the author successfully elevates an otherwise insipid premise— a woman appearing to accept out of desperation a marriage offer from a man equally willing to take advantage of this— with a warm style of writing. The characters' underlying motivations and strengths also help support the story.
