Determined Mrs. Jocelyn Finch gathers a bevy of brides to escort to Halifax, where she expects to find husbands for them. Her plans are dashed when the man who greets them tells her to turn back.

Appointed governor, Sir Robert Kerr fears that Mrs. Finch's ladies will bring mayhem to his well-ordered, peaceful world. But Jocelyn refuses to leave and challenges the hardheaded governor at every turn.

As their personal battle heats up, Jocelyn begins writing of her dilemmas, and when her thoughts find their way into publication, disaster strikes, threatening the tenuous bond she and Kerr have formed.

With its unusual setting and personable characters, this charming, light Regency-era romance satisfies those looking for something a bit different. But it still has all the elements of a traditional historical romance. SENSUAL (Feb., 350 pp., $5.50)
