RT Rating

The story's wonderful world building will immediately grab readers' attention. Fantasy fans will appreciate the unique setting as well as the distinctive physical characteristics that make Kelly’s beings stand out from others in the genre. Readers should get ready for some great action scenes as well as more tender moments as the human Layla and the elf Ulric make their own magic — together.

As the best archer in her village, Layla Brightarrow’s mission is to assassinate sorcerers who have been capturing and enslaving her people. However, her number one target is Althir, a traitorous elf who is the human’s biggest threat. Ulric of Glengowyn, Althir’s brother, has been shadowing Layla and she thinks it is because he wants to keep his sibling safe. But when it is revealed that Ulric is not interested in anything else but helping Layla, the young woman is overwhelmed. She has secretly desired Ulric for as long as she can remember and now she knows he wants her just as much. But battle lines have been drawn and the only way that she and Ulric can be together is if he betrays his own family. (SAMHAIN, Oct. 2011, dl., $3.50)
