The holiday offering in Carr’s popular Virgin River series serves up a heartwarming, humorous and touching tale that seamlessly weaves in new and old characters. Even the author’s heavy-handed handling of a few plot points doesn’t spoil this feel-good read.

In order to see her ex-boyfriend, Becca Timm horns in on her brother’s all-male hunting trip to Virgin River. She has a new man and wants to find closure with Denny Cutler, who broke her heart three years ago. But a minor accident leaves her stranded with Denny in his very small apartment. He hasn’t gotten over her either. He tried to apologize before but Becca wasn’t ready to listen. Forced to spend time together, Denny is sure he can convince her to give him another chance. With the holidays fast approaching, Becca and Denny must both learn that in love there are no real sacrifices. (MIRA, Nov., 336 pp., $7.99)
