Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense 2010 Suspense/Thriller Nominee Read an Excerpt | Message from the Author Slaughter’s reputation for dark and compelling tales of criminal investigation and personal tragedy is well deserved in the newest Grant County story. A first-class, perfectly paced mystery, shadowed with dark emotion and laden with guilt and corruption. Slaughter at her best. Special agent Will Trent arrives in Grant County to investigate the death of a prisoner, only to find the local PD isn’t cooperating. He knows officer Lena Anderson is hiding something, and that it goes beyond her role in the death of police chief Jeffrey Tolliver. He’s also got his hands full handling the chief’s widow, Dr. Sara Linton, who’s not only in the middle of the investigation, but still carrying a grudge against Lena, who was also in love with Tolliver. The department is also looking into a young woman’s murder that may be connected to the prisoner’s death.
