How do you come back if your identity, your soul and your will have been shattered? That is the core question in Daniels’ utterly gut-wrenching follow-up to Night Blade. Fallout from that book has left private investigator Kit Colbana struggling to rebuild herself. Daniels explores this theme in graphic and harsh detail, centering on Kit’s journey, where every step forward becomes a triumph. This is a tough but extraordinary read.

Still traumatized by the torture she experienced at the hands of the vampire Jude, Kit has retreated from life into Wolf Haven with her friends T.J. and Goliath. But Kit can’t hide forever, so T.J. gets Kit a supposedly easy case: Help a young woman track down the father of her unborn child. Unfortunately, the case leads Kit to the Cat clan — and to former lover Damon, who wants to restart their relationship. And when the hunt for an ancient relic dovetails with her current case, the consequences could be more serious than Kit had ever imagined. (SHILOHWALKER.COM, dl $4.99)
