Fowler's latest Benni Harper mystery has the quilter, recently married to police officer Gabriel Ortiz, helping out at the dude ranch of her father's oldest friend, who died recently, leaving the ranch to his daughter and son-in-law.

As Benni leads some guests on a trail ride, a dog discovers a human bone. Benni soon encounters the handsome detective Ford Hudson, a man for whom she has conflicting feelings, despite their past arguments. As some "accidents" occur, Benni tries to help Hud with his investigation.

Quirky ranch guests provide lots of entertainment, especially some rich, attractive girls from the South, who go after Hud. And a religious quilting group adds its own brand of humor when one of its own is intent on cheating at dominoes. Fowler has penned a western cozy that's sure to please fans of lighthearted western mysteries. (May, 304 pp., $23.95)
