Book Review

by Jane Casey

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense

RT Rating

Casey’s U.S. debut is a twisty and intense psychological thriller with an engaging, thoroughly competent heroine. An intense creepiness builds throughout the book from low hum to screaming alarm. The Burning will keep readers riveted long past their bedtimes.

Detective Constable Maeve Kerrigan is investigating the case of The Burning Man, a serial killer who has beaten four women to death before setting them on fire. When a fifth victim is found, Maeve isn’t sure it’s the same killer, despite the fact that the details are almost identical to the earlier murders. As she delves into the latest victim’s life and the lives of those she was close to, she catches the attention of some very dangerous people. Not to mention that a serial killer is still on the loose in London. (MINOTAUR, Sep., 336 pp., $24.99)
