BURNING SECRETS (4.5) by Elizabeth Sinclair When Karen Ellis' boyfriend, firefighter Paul Jackson, dies in suspicious circumstances, she turns to his friend Jesse Kingston for answers. Jesse, also a firefighter, feels guilty for obeying orders not to accompany Paul into the fire, where he might have been able to save him. When Karen and Jesse meet, they feel an immediate connection. But both have secrets that might end their relationship before it has a chance -- if they live, since someone is out to silence them. The dynamic characters and mystery hook readers right into the story. But it's the overarching themes of family and belonging that make it a winner.
