RT Rating

This is the perfect piece of erotica: nuanced, complex, dirty, loving and intimate. The sex is scorchingly hot, but it’s made infinitely sexier by the layers of emotion that the team behind Katie Porter gives their characters. Closeted bigwig film producer Kyle and his ex-con ex-boyfriend Nate are both fully realized men with a long history that’s delicately drawn and thoughtfully handled. Their explosive re-connection and their mutual exploration are sweet, tough and believable and their chemistry is extraordinary. Solid writing and a good supporting cast fill out a story that’s as delightfully packaged as any Christmas present.

Kyle Wakefield may believe that Second Chances is the best stunt company in the business, but he has an ulterior motive when he hires the crew for the film he’s producing: It’s run by Nate Carnes, his ex-boyfriend. But although years have passed, Kyle’s still in the closet, and Nate isn’t ready to have his heart broken again. As Christmas Eve approaches, the two men find themselves re-connecting, and Nate must make the call: Is Second Chances just a business, or is it something he’s willing to give Kyle, too? Came Upon a Midnight Clear

Kyle Wakefield is a film producer working in London on a blockbuster movie. He and his business partner, Stephanie, have hired Second Chances, a stunt movie crew made up of ex-cons and run by Kyle's former lover, Nathan Carnes. Nate is furious when he finds out Kyle is behind the job, but it's too late to back out now. Ten years ago the two lovers were planning a life together. But Kyle was still in the closet and Nate, considering himself not good enough for Kyle, does something that lands him in prison. Now the two decide to pick up their relationship until filming is done. But their feelings and the past keep getting in the way.

I've only read a few M/M stories, but I thought this one was well written. I was a little confused in the first half of the book. The conversations between the two men would allude to how they hurt each other in the past, but we are not told what actually happened until the second half of the book. The first half of the book has a lot of anger. The second half of the book is very emotional. Issues of trust between the couple and the problem of Kyle still being in the closet drives the conflict between the two and makes for a very good story. My rating: 4 Stars.
