There are no surprises in this story about reuniting with family and friends. But Ford’s deft writing makes readers care about the protagonists as the heroine seeks to reunite her family and fulfill her dreams of her HEA.

Since going into foster care at the age of 5, Jenna has dreamed about reuniting with her brother and sister. Thankfully, she didn’t become a victim of the system and went on to achieve academic success. She returns to Detroit to teach at her alma mater, buy a home and hire a detective to finally find her siblings.

At the same time, her former fiancé, Scott, has also returned to their hometown to complete the education that he skipped out on when he joined the NBA. Jenna is very grateful for his support, especially when her sister isn’t exactly what she imagined. (AVON, Jul., 384 pp., $7.99)
