Book Review

Billingsley's latest is just as cinematic, spicy and drama-filled as most of her books. But the characters are just as two-dimensional as in some of those same books. A red herring near the end renders the story not as satisfying as it could have been. But what's great is the spiritual thread that runs throughout.

Divorce court judge Vanessa Colton-Kirk presides over the breakup of countless unhappy and disillusioned couples as her own marriage is failing. She's having an affair with her own ambition. When she learns that her husband has impregnated a younger woman, she fights not just to keep her marriage but also to save her reputation. Their divorce court judge sends the couple to a spiritual retreat. Will it save them or break them? (POCKET, Jul., 336 pp., $14.00)
