Lord Black Jack, the Earl of Dover, returns to England after a long absence to find the charming and intriguing Lizzie Matthews, his stepsister's daughter, visiting.
Raised in the colonies, Lizzie is outspoken and independent, with an aversion to the aristocracy, not a bit of fluff like most English women Jack has known. While her family plans to find a suitable husband for her, Jack is plotting to make Lizzie his own. He convinces her to accept his suit, telling her she can break their engagement, though he has no intention of letting her go.
Jack does his best to convince Lizzie that she's falling in love with him until he discovers that the little rebel has been spying for the colonies. When Lizzie is arrested for treason, Jack helps her escape and they flee to his home in the Caribbean until her name can be cleared.
Lizzie Matthews is a strong woman who speaks her mind and is not intimidated by men. Jack is a dashing hero. Both will risk all for love. Their verbal repartee is superb and that's what makes CAPTIVATED so alluring. VERY SENSUAL (Apr., 384 pp., $4.99)
