CARDS AND CARAVANS
All the trappings of a good steampunk novel are here, with a variety of fascinating mechanical devices available to the knights, and Pape rounds out the cast of well-developed characters with a female mechanic. But most enchanting of all is the love that develops between the hero and heroine.
Belinda Danvers is sitting in gaol waiting to be burned at the stake when Sir Connor MacKay rescues her. He takes her to his home where they marry in an effort to protect her from the vigilantes who are on a rampage, trying to destroy anything that even hints at magick. As a descendent of a Knight of the Round Table, Connor possesses magick of his own, as do members of his family. Connor and Belinda realize the people conducting these witch hunts must be stopped, even if it means involving his relatives and her grandfather’s circus. (CARINAPRESS.COM, dl $2.99)
