As a deadly hurricane bears down on her As a deadly hurricane bears down on her Florida home, psychic Mira Morales has her hands full preparing her bookstore and home. At the same time, she's asked to consult on the whereabouts of three convicts who staged a bloody escape hours before. Mira winds up opening a connection between the killers and herself that she and her family will regret.

As the violent storm hits, the fugitives invade her home, and Mira must rely on all of her abilities (as well as those of her grandmother and her daughter Annie) to ensure her family's survival. As the storm builds outside and tensions rise within, the story hurtles toward its shocking and bittersweet conclusion.

Everything works to perfection in this novel; all the characters, from Mira and Annie to the fugitives and the dog, are beautifully drawn. Without losing the fast momentum of the story, MacGregor excellently develops the characters and the plot through dialogue and Mira's and Annie's psychic episodes. This fantastic book will leave readers eager to learn more about Mira and her family and friends. (Oct., 384 pp., $6.99)
