Former police partners Lila McIntyre and Brian Cavanaugh drifted apart after she was injured in the line of duty. Then her police officer husband was killed amid questions about whether he'd been a dirty cop, and Brian also had to deal with a family tragedy. When Lila starts getting threatening phone calls that seem to be leading to a stalker situation, she turns to Brian, who's now the chief of detectives. Spending time together reawakens feelings that had never been acknowledged. Will this time be different? Marie Ferrarella does a wonderful job of writing about families and their close ties with one another. Cavanaugh Heat (4), part of the Cavanaugh Justice series, has an interesting twist and an intriguing ending that's the perfect set-up for several new stories.
