Book Review

A CENTURY OF GREAT SUSPENSE STORIES
by Jeffery Deaver, ed.

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Anthology

RT Rating

This large volume of 36 suspense stories is sure to delight all lovers of the form and makes a wonderful introduction to those who want to become acquainted with suspense. Many of todays popular authors are represented here.

Ellery Queen has a fine story featuring, of course, Ellery Queen. The master of the short story, Edward D. Hoch, has a Sebastian Blue-Laura Charme Interpol story included. Other popular authors include Patricia Highsmith, Marcia Muller, Sara Paretsky, and John D. MacDonald. My one caveat is the titleonly five of the stories were written before 1950, leaving a large gap in the century part of the book. (Nov., 608 pp., $29.95)
