OFF THE CHAIN
This story of the life of a call girl could have been hotter. The sex scenes are matter-of-fact, not sexy. London is not a very sympathetic character; she comes across as lazy, spoiled and petulant. Additionally, the ending would have benefited from more fleshing out.
London Reed, a recent college graduate, is highly disappointed when she doesn’t get accepted into veterinary school. At her mother’s urging she takes a job as an administrative assistant for William Thorne. When budget cuts force lay-offs, Thorne talks London into becoming a high-priced call girl for his clients. Her feelings for him — and the $1,000 per hour pay — prove irresistible, so London finds herself jetting all over the country with high rollers. But all good things must come to an end. Soon her lifestyle puts her life and freedom in jeopardy. (GRAND CENTRAL, Jun., 278 pp., $14.99)
