The Chaos of Stars is one of the most original books this reviewer has read in a while. White’s witty undertones will keep readers entertained, though the relatable and lovable characters would have done that on their own. All this helps with the plot’s slow start. The storyline is new and exciting, and by the end you’ll be holding your breath.

Some say family is forever, and for Isadora that phrase is literally true. The daughter of ancient Egyptian gods, she is also completely human. All she wants to do is escape her eternal relatives, who make her mortal life feel insignificant and small. She finally gets the chance when her mother sends her to California. But Isadora discovers you can’t leave family behind. (HARPERTEEN, Sep., 288 pp., $17.99, ISBN: 9780062135926, HC, 13 & Up)
