Book Review

by Suzanne Lazear

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary Young Adult

RT Rating

Lazear‘s second Aether Chronicles title is a thrilling, nonstop read, picking up seamlessly from the first and moving forward with strong action and lots of angst. Her alternate 1901 is totally believable, and the strong-willed characters enhance rather than inhibit the story. Fans of the series and the genre will not be able to put this one down.

Noli Braddock is devastated when her love, Steven, is forced to break their bond. When her brother offers her a spot on his airship, she takes it gratefully. As Noli begins her new life, she finds that the ship she now calls home is actually acquiring magical artifacts from museums all over the world for a mysterious client. Moving on is tough, as her old life will not leave her alone: She soon discovers that their benefactor is actually the very man who wants her and Steven dead. In order to survive and protect those she loves, Noli will have to draw on all of her strength and power. (FLUX, Aug., $9.99, 408 pp., ISBN: 9780738733029, PB, 12 & Up)
