Alcorn’s latest will help readers get a picture of God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross that provides forgiveness. The allegory takes a familiar story and provides new dimension. This short novel packs a tremendous impact and is definitely one to be savored rather than taken in one big gulp. Discussion questions at the end provide seeds for group or individual contemplation.

Nick Seagrave is a traveler who finds himself on a difficult journey; he must cross an enormous chasm to get to a distant shining city. He tries to make his own path, and gets waylaid by people and things that appear wonderful — but turn out to be awful. Nick must learn to put his trust in a woodsman who doesn’t desire or require any help from Nick, yet expects everything from him. (MULTNOMAH, Feb., 128 pp., $14.99)
