As teenage sweethearts, builder Will
and chef Dinah had big dreams for their future. Not even his tour of duty in Vietnam, a brief breakup and her summer in Paris -- or the growth caused by each experience -- came between them. Marriage, three beautiful children and a nice life follow, as expected. Then a horrible car accident shatters that life -- and their relationship. But what splits them up might also bring them back together. Janice Kay Johnson's Christmas Presents and Past (3) covers some familiar territory
but evokes a very strong sense of time and place. Unfortunately, the story doesn't fully engage until things start going wrong for the characters. But keep a tissue handy; several scenes are painfully emotional.
