To escape abusive foster parents, Jo Almond takes her brother to France and leaves him with a friend while she establishes herself. Jo takes a job tending a classic car collection while the owner is away. Wounded war correspondent Patrick Burns returns and lets Jo stay, although he's troubled by their obvious attraction. Jo's not used to belonging, but can Patrick change that? Sophie Weston's The Cinderella Factor (4.5) makes a classic setup -- a teenage orphan paired with an older man -- work like a charm because Jo's no helpless waif, and the age difference is handled with sensitivity.
