Book Review

by Rhys Bowen

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Historical

RT Rating

The latest Molly Murphy mystery is filled with intriguing characters, especially Molly herself, who is brave yet realistically portrayed. Bowen sets the stage with background information and historical detail while she keeps the story moving forward at a pleasing pace. The setting of turn-of-the-century Paris comes to life as the mystery builds. A young child thrown into the mix adds great tension.

When a dangerous gang retaliates against her police officer husband for making an arrest, Molly Murphy Sullivan and her infant son leave New York City for safety reasons. Molly’s plan to visit family friends in Paris could put them in even more danger, as her hosts are missing. In her search for them, she discovers that a famous Impressionist painter has been murdered. (MINOTAUR, Mar., 320 pp., $25.99)
