Months pass before Homicide Detective Milo Sturgis inherits the floundering case of psychology professor Hope Devane who was stabbed to death on a quiet LA street with apparently no witnesses. Milo promptly and calls on his old friend Alex Delaware for help.

When Alex learns that Hope was a famous radical feminist, he wonders if she was killed because of her beliefs. Alex also discovers that Hope was involved on campus with the Conduct Committee. Because of threatened lawsuits, no one will discuss the Committee or its aborted attempts to handle harassment cases. Could one of the men targeted by the Committee be responsible? Hope also provided counseling assistance to a Beverly Hills abortion clinic.

Many had reason to dislike Professor Devane, but which episode from her past led to her death?
