Humor is definitely on tap in the second book of Allred’s fun and feisty Alien Affairs series. Allred’s genetically created heroine is a most reluctant operative, one who is more comfortable throwing a diplomatic party than kicking butt. This wonderful book is chock-full of excitement, danger and the heroine’s first-person offbeat sense of humor. A real gem of a book!
Echo Adams is a GEP, or genetically enhanced person. But she is no run-of-the-mill GEP, for Echo was given the unique Psi ability. Reluctantly dragged from her diplomatic posting to Alien Affairs headquarters, Echo is given a dangerous assignment, one only she is capable of handling. The Daughter Stone of the immensely powerful life form called the Limantti has been stolen. Unfortunately, Echo tracks the stolen lifeform to the planet Madrea, whose king is a technophobe who has cut all ties to the Federation. Echo, along with her dragon bird Peri, are going to have to find a way to recover the Daughter Stone without creating an intergalactic incident. If Echo has her way, she will get some help from Reynard, the sinfully sexy commander of the king’s forces. (EOS, Jun., 400 pp., $7.99)
