A COLD CREEK HOLIDAY (4.5) by RaeAnne Thayne: Needing solitude while she deals with her sad Christmas memories, textile designer Emery Kendall rents a cottage on a guest ranch for the holidays. The new owner, Nate Cavazos, isn't expecting her, but he agrees to let Emery stay. An ex-Army Ranger, Nate has also inherited custody of his two young nieces and finds the adjustment to civilian life -- and parenthood -- difficult. Emery's presence eases the situation, but Nate's reluctant to let her get too close -- to him or the girls. A richly plotted story with characters that are easy to care about, this one is as emotional as it is funny. Keep some tissues handy.
