Frustrated with her conservative trustee, Meryl Winters advertises for a gold-digging husband so she can get control of her inheritance. Her scheme sends her to England to meet Lord Jarvis Larne and visit his struggling estate. Only she gets a not-so-welcoming welcome from her future husband. It seems Jarvis did not respond to her ad (a well-meaning friend did so for him), has no intention of marrying her, and is determined to solve his own financial problems. But after one night in the castle, Meryl decides otherwise. A CONVENIENT WEDDING (4.5) by Lucy Gordon is a definite keeper! Gordon's characters are so lifelike, they dance across the page and the story is so emotionally deep that one feels like a participant and not an observer.
