Angie Amalfi and Paavo Smith are back, in the newest installment of Joanne Pences wonderful series. Determined to get her man away from work so he can concentrate on their relationship, Angie arranges a cruise to Acapulco. Since Paavo flatly refused to travel on a regular cruise line, Angie finds a freighter that carries a limited number of passengers down to Mexico.

The cruise gets off to an inauspicious start when Angie and Paavo witness the cook trying to abandon ship. The next bad omen is when officer Sven Ingerson is taken severely ill and has to leave the ship.

When their cabin is searched and more bizarre incidents occur, Angie realizes something is up. Distracted by a tragedy that occurred on the job just before his departure, Paavo is slow to realize the danger they are in.

Somehow they have landed in the middle of an international plot to steal a revolutionary energy discovery by Lawrence Labs. The deadly agent known only as Hydra wants the secret. Eliminating troublesome individuals is nothing new to Hydra, and Angie and Paavo certainly qualify as troublesome.

Joanne Pence once more delivers a winner! COOKS OVERBOARD is a funny, thrilling and dangerous novel to relish. (Dec., 287 pp., $5.99)
