COULDA BEEN A COWBOY
Football player Tyson Garner hires plump plain-Jane Dakota Brown to look after the son he's just gained custody of, not worried that he'll be attracted to her. But he starts feeling protective of Dakota and moves her into the cottage he's borrowing from a friend to keep her away from her alcoholic father. Happy in her new job, Dakota soon transforms herself into an attractive woman. At that point, she has no trouble catching Tyson's eye. Coulda Been a Cowboy (4), by Brenda Novak, has well-drawn, realistic characters. Tyson's arrogance and anger over his situation and Dakota's hopelessness over hers add a refreshing depth.
