COUNT MAXIME'S VIRGIN (2) by Susan Stephens Tara Devenish meets Count Lucien Maxime when her sister sets up a meeting she hopes will catch them both rich men. As uncomfortable as Tara feels about the situation, Lucien is everything she dreamed about -- until she wakes up with only a wad of cash waiting for her. But her sister marries the count's brother, and two years later, they die, leaving behind a daughter, as well as some tawdry gossip about Tara. When Tara and Lucien see each other for the first time since their initial meeting, will he welcome her or believe the worst about her? The book starts in a bleak place, and a feeling of sadness permeates for much of the story. Luckily, the heroine is filled with such relentless hope that there's some color amid the gray.
