Dane’s third installment of her Petal, Georgia series is fine as a stand-alone, but features enjoyable characters from earlier books. The romantic plot is heavy on the suspense and light on the sex scenes. The wonderful relationship between Caroline and Royal attests to the fact that Dane knows how to create great characters and an engrossing story. Hero Royal is almost too good to be true.

After 16 years, Caroline returns to Petal, Ga., to continue her quest to find out what really happened on the night her family was destroyed. Caroline’s mother was brutally murdered and her father was convicted and died in prison. Caroline has always believed her father was innocent, which motivated her to become a lawyer. When she runs into Royal Watson, the attraction is immediate and intense. Royal has her back as she stands up to narrow-minded and mean-spirited townsfolk and as it becomes increasingly evident Caroline’s life is in danger. (SAMHAINPUBLISHING.COM, dl $5.50)
