COUNTERFEIT COWBOY (4) by Lacy Williams: Determined to visit her brother and his family in Wyoming, Erin O’Grady sneaks away from Boston and her well-to-do father. At the train station, she is rescued from a thief by Jesse Baker. Jesse has just been released after five years in prison for being a con man. Wanting to go straight, he’s in a rough spot, without money and with a promise to keep. When he gets involved with Erin and street urchin Pete, he longs to be the cowboy he’s pretending to be, and worthy of Erin’s love. This is an appealing story with complex and interesting characters, including a well-drawn cowboy hero, who in the end is just that.
