A COWBOY FOR CHRISTMAS
In this third visit to the charming town of Jubilee, Texas, Wilde uses her gift with words to bring to life her entirely delightful characters, in an emotional and warm-hearted story. Those who love cowboys will certainly empathize with the heroine’s feelings about them.
When she was 16, a fortuneteller predicted a cowboy would change Lissette’s life. This leads Lissette to marry cowboy Jake Moncrief and end up in Jubilee, Texas, with very little money, the widowed mother of a beautiful 2-year-old son who is slowly going deaf. When Jake’s half-brother, Rafferty Jones, shows up wanting to give her the money from the insurance for which Jake made him the beneficiary, Lissette refuses it. Before he returns home to California, Rafferty offers to train Jake’s cutting horse so she can get more money when she sells it. However, as he gets to know Lissette, her son and her friends, Rafferty begins to wonder if California really is the home for him. (AVON, Nov., 384 pp., $7.99)
