Key West has a rich history, making it the perfect setting for a ghostly tale of sunken treasure and murder mystery. While Dallas and Hannah don’t immediately get along, eventually their wariness turns to a very heated attraction. An excellent combination of setting, character and plot keeps readers intently involved as Hannah and Dallas work to stay ahead of the Wolf. The lost treasure of Santa Elinora adds a gothic feel to a modern story, with pacing that slowly builds suspense as clues are revealed. The Krewe of Hunters guarantees plenty of thrills and chills mixed with a fresh, sexy romance.
Hannah O’Brien runs a small bed and breakfast in the Florida Keys and does tours showcasing the unique haunted history of the local area. The Siren of the Sea has been in her family for generations and Hannah’s struggling to stay afloat, but finding a dead man on her property isn’t how she wants to boost business. She calls in her cousin, a member of the Krewe of Hunters, a special unit dedicated to solving “unusual” crimes, to unofficially work the case. FBI agent Dallas Sampson is also called to the scene because the murder overlaps with a case he’s working involving a dangerous smuggling ring that deals in artifacts and treasure. Hannah may be their latest target. (MIRA, Jun., 368 pp., $7.99)
