Few characters match up as well as Cat Dupree and Wilson McKay. One hopes that this taut, intriguing tale is only the first of many adventures they'll share. Solomon Tutuola's a well-written villain too.

When a laptop GPS program tells her that a bag left behind in Mexico six weeks ago while she was apprehending her best friend's killer is moving, it means one thing to bounty hunter Cat. Tutuola, the man who murdered Cat's father, then slit her throat and left her for dead, is alive. She's dreamed of tracking him down and making him pay for his crimes. And that's just what she does -- against the wishes of her boss, her friends and her lover, fellow bounty hunter Wilson.

Worried, ticked off and hurt, Wilson withdraws emotionally from Cat but, when push comes to shove, he has her back. Getting used to that is even tougher for Cat than handling desperate criminals! (MIRA, Nov., 352 pp., $7.99)
