Teresa Carpenter's DADDY'S LITTLE MEMENTO (3) is a poignant story involving child custody. High school principal Alex is all about order and control. He doesn't like surprises, so when school nurse Samantha tells him he's fathered a son, he understandably freaks out—then sues for custody. Carpenter sets up a situation that seems impossible to portray realistically, yet she makes it believable and true instead of contrived. Despite some problems with Alex's motivation and a few scenes that drag, the plot is tight and the solution to Alex and Samantha's custody problem seems natural and exactly right.
