DAEMONS ARE FOREVER
This is a fantastic story. Eddie and his kick-butt-and-take-names girlfriend Molly are engaging, witty and just a fun couple to know. The rest of the cast is varied and charismatic, with strongly written personalities. The action is fast paced, and the dialogue is clever and amusing, in a sort of Dick Tracy meets the Ghostbusters style -- all of it good. This book is a delight from beginning to end, and readers will eagerly look forward to the next in the series.
The Droods are an ancient family, one sworn to protect the everyday world from the unimaginable forces of evil, magic and alien visitors. They are powerful. They are also corrupt. But there's one member of the family who disagrees with that tactic. Violently. And now, all that stands between the world as we know it and the forces of darkness, is Eddie Drood.
The family is none too happy with Eddie since he destroyed the most powerful weapon the Droods had against the evils that swirl dangerously about, unseen in our midst. Without their golden armor, the Droods have deteriorated into helpless, treacherous chaos. It's up to Eddie to pull them together again as a united family. And he'd better do it fast, because they're about to go head to head with the most dangerous threat the world has ever faced. (ROC, Jun., 406 pp., $23.95)
