This collection of three short stories, previously released as e-books, will not disappoint those fans who are familiar with the Lords of the Underworld series, though newcomers may be lost. The last third is dedicated to some fascinating and entertaining special features.

In "The Darkest Fire" Geryon, slave to the prince of darkness and guardian of hell, obsesses over the goddess Kadance. Psychically bound to the wall of the underworld she guards, the fact that it is cracking could kill her.

Cursed by the gods to be neither seen nor heard, Amazon Nola is still determined to find a way to rescue vampire Zane, now a slave in "The Amazon's Curse." "The Darkest Prison" has Atlas, Titan god of strength, who was once prisoner of Nike, Greek goddess of strength and victory. Now the roles are reversed. (HQN, May, 368 pp., $7.99)
