Beth Randall has always believed that she was orphaned. She has no idea that her father, Darius, has been watching from afar. But with Beth turning 25, he has no choice but to intervene.

Darius is a vampire warrior, one of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, who protect their people against Lessers--the soulless humans who kill vampires. The unsuspecting Beth is half-vampire and rapidly approaching the "transition," which means that, without help and powerful blood, she won't survive.

Before he is murdered by the Lessers, Darius appeals to Wrath, the leader of the Brotherhood, for help. Wrath has cut himself off from both emotions and humans, but something about Beth gets to him. Now Wrath must find a way to tell Beth of her unique heritage and the changes she is about to undergo. There is also a rising threat from a deadly group of Lessers--they have already killed Darius and are hungry for more.

It's not easy to find a new twist on the vampire myth, but Ward succeeds beautifully. This dark and compelling world is filled with enticing romance as well as perilous adventure. With myriad possibilities to choose from, the Black Dagger Brotherhood series promises tons of thrills and chills. (Sep., 416 pp., $6.99)

Vampire Darius is worried about his half-breed daughter who may soon be going through her dangerous transformation into a vampire.  He requests that the world's last purebred vampire, Wrath, help her through this change.  Beth Randall has no idea that vampires exist...or that she may be changing into one.  When Wrath comes to her in the night, his tales of the brotherhood and their war against the Lesser Society frightens her...yet she is drawn to him.

Amazing!  J.R. Ward builds a world of vampires and the evil they fight against.  This is the second time I've read this book and it is just as good as the first. I highly recommend it.  My rating:  5 Stars.
