Dying is part of a Paladin warrior's daily job description. The Paladins are a unique race that has been fighting a
war against the encroaching "Others" for centuries. Where the Earth's crust breaks, the barrier between worlds is weakened, and it is the Paladins' job
to prevent the Others from crossing.

Dr. Lauren Young is a Handler whose job is to heal the Paladins' wounds and bring them back to life once more. There is a price paid every time a warrior is reborn, for he begins to lose his humanity and, in the end, may become that which he fights. Devlin Bane has fought the Others for decades, but during his last fight, the killing blow came from a human hand. Who tried to kill him permanently?

When it comes to Devlin, Lauren is unable to keep her objectivity, and their growing attraction is in defiance of all protocols. More ominously, someone is playing a very treacherous game, and the danger is much closer than any of them realizes.

Finding powerful new debut authors is a genuine pleasure, so add Morgan to the must-watch list. Her combination of modern technology and paranormal powers makes this new series intriguing and unique. Morgan sets up compelling characters who all deserve their own stories, so hopefully this is just the beginning. (Jul., 320 pp., $6.99)
