Becoming a Crimson City cop, after being a teenage single mother, has ensured that Claudia Donovan is no pushover. However, she is definitely in over her head when she suddenly gets caught between the vampires and demons.

In order to breach the barrier separating the demon underground of Orcus and the human world, the demons need Claudia's blood. By kidnapping her daughter Holly, the demons make sure that Claudia enters Orcus. Once there, Claudia learns some disturbing news about Holly and that opening the portal will eventually kill Claudia.

Claudia's only hope may lie with feared vampire Tiberiu Korzha, who has also entered Orcus on a mission. To Claudia's surprise, Tiberiu agrees to help. But the rules of Orcus are very different from those of Crimson City, which makes survival iffy. Complicating matters further is the fact that a dreaded Bak-Faru demon named Lath claims Claudia as his bond mate.
