This entry in Taylor’s Black Gryffons series seeks to resolve the mystery of “the Secret” and settle the fates of the Alexandre brothers. The brothers’ sacrifices for their mission weighs heavily on youngest brother Talen, but their devotion to each other is never in doubt and quite admirable. After centuries of family guardianship, the ultimate resolution is almost anti-climactic, but the safety of the world is assured.
Youngest Alexandre brother, Talen, is prepared to fulfill his obligation to marry and sire a son. He encounters two women who present vastly different personalities but each satisfies his needs. Even though he has always practiced a D/s lifestyle, meeting Michelle makes him question what he really wants. Michelle is just trying to make a good impression at her job when she meets Talen. Their flirtation gets serious fast. Talen is torn because Michelle is the polar opposite of what he thinks he wants. The deadly Chimera organization is also still on the brothers’ heels, trying to obtain “the Secret.” Once that secret is exposed, this becomes a battle of wits and a race against time that the brothers must win.
