Book Review

by Alexandra Bracken

Genre: Young Adult, Futuristic

RT Rating

Hauntingly reminiscent of prisoner-of-war camps, Bracken’s latest maintains constant tension. Ruby is strong, even while maintaining believable self-doubts as she attempts to create a livable world in a society attempting to suppress her. A new twist on dystopia, this is one not to miss.

Born into a government-controlled society, Ruby is in danger after developing her powers. Her parents send her to a government “rehabilitation” camp, where survival is a constant struggle. Years later, she manages to escape and join forces with a group of escapees. Together they find the slip kid, a leader among those in power; but when their haven becomes less than ideal, Ruby is faced with an impossible choice.
