Another worthy addition to the Palladin series, this story features a nicely developed relationship with a welcome lack of gory battle scenes. While reading previous books is not required, frequent references to other stories will propel you to your bookstore.
Jarvis gets a jolt when he wakes up to a lovely caregiver who's not freaked out by his abilities, and an even bigger shock when he sees Chase. The teen is a ringer for a dead Palladin, and about to mature into one himself. Jarvis is torn. He really likes Gwen, but how can he reconcile romancing her with taking Chase away to a life of fighting until death? Can he quiet his conscience long enough to grab a taste of the only peace he has ever known? (POCKET STAR, Feb., 384 pp., $6.99)
