THE DARLING DAHLIAS AND THE CUCUMBER TREE
The Depression-era setting is a little sanitized in Albert’s new series, but hardships are not ignored. Albert takes a while to get her set-up in place, but once things begin to unravel, the pace picks up. Readers will enjoy getting to know the spunky ladies of the club.
There’s a lot going on in tiny Darling, Ala., in May, 1930. A flirtatious local woman is found dead, a convict has escaped from the local prison farm, a legendary ghost is walking again and there are rumors that something’s wrong at the bank. The ladies of The Darling Dahlias Garden Club take it upon themselves to dig up clues and restore Darling to its usual peaceful state. (PRIME CRIME, Jul., 304 pp., $24.95)
