Book Review

THE DARLING DAHLIAS AND THE NAKED LADIES
by Susan Wittig Albert

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Historical

RT Rating

This second outing for the Darling Dahlias is a bit more streamlined than the first, as the author focuses on only a few of the members. Albert is an expert at mixing clues with character-developing subplots, resulting in a leisurely pace and an engrossing narrative. The period details are meticulously researched, the floral tidbits are informative and the conclusion contains a few surprises.

The Darling Dahlias Garden Club members have a juicy little mystery — just who are the two reclusive ladies who’ve come to stay with Miss Hamer? Are they really former vaudeville stars known for their skin-baring act? Is Miss Jamison really Miss Hamer’s niece, or is she a con artist? And who is the nattily dressed bald man who’s looking for her — a government agent or a gangster? (PRIME CRIME, Jul., 304 pp., $25.95)
