With this first book in a proposed series of three, debut young adult author Standiford steps into high school and the fickle and scary world of love and blind dates. The book is heavy on light fun and light on heavy topics—enjoyable but not revolutionary.

Holly, Madison and Lina are best friends. Holly, the only non-virgin, is labeled a slut after an e-mail gets into the wrong hands; Madison is deter-mined to finally lose her virginity to Sean; Lina is crazy about Dan—their sex ed teacher. For a school project, the girls try to find the answer to the age-old question: Are boys more sex-crazy than girls? They set up a website questionnaire and arrange a few blind dates along the way.

The characters are loveable girls trying to maneuver their way through crushes and school. Sandiford keeps the overall tone of the book light, even while dealing with topics such as backstabbing and name-calling. If you enjoy this first installment, an excerpt of the second book, due out in June of this year, is included. (Feb., 216 pp., $9.99)
